    Today we are talking wedding planning. Before you think “Hang on wedding planning? That’s not for me.” “I can’t afford that”, “I want to organise my wedding myself”, “I don’t want to lose control of my big day”, just read our interview with South West Wedding Planner Ladyamy Weddings and see if we can change your minds….. 

    Ladyamy Weddings

    1.  What is the service you provide?

    I am a Wedding Planner and Stylist and also a Bridal Hair Specialist. (I have also organised a few other small events, such as birthday parties, launch parties and anniversary parties, but my love is for weddings).



    2.  What area do you cover?

    I am based in Cheltenham, in the heart of the Cotswolds, but cover the entire of Gloucestershire. I am very happy to travel further on request. And have helped brides to be and couples with their wedding plans and styling in Wales / Italy and London, 1 couple in New York. I love Skype chats.

    3.  Isn’t a wedding planner just for rich people?

    Definitely not. I guess you would require a fair budget in order to book a wedding planner to help with Full Wedding Planning and Co-ordination, as this service is usually around 10-15% of your overall budget. However, most wedding planners do offer other services aswell, ranging in price, for those busy couples who simply need a hand with research and bringing certain aspects of their day together. Our services begin from just £100. You could book us just for some advice, to help point you in the right direction, and this is only £25 an hour.

    So no, a wedding planner is not for rich couples. A wedding planner is for design led and creative couples, who simply want a professional on board to help bring to life their dream day, by recommending the best suppliers and venue, for the best price, negotiate and do all the leg work, so they can simply enjoy their wedding journey.


    4.  What exactly does a wedding planner do?

    Well, this depends on which service you are booked for, but I do most things.. 🙂 From emailing, research, venue viewing, accompanying my couples to meetings, paper work, sourcing decorations and supplies, liaising with suppliers, negotiating prices, picking up and dropping off, styling, setting up and clearing down, DIY projects and much more.. 🙂 I love every aspect of my job, all the behind the scenes bits and the appreciation of the hard work, once it’s all over.


    5.  What are the advantages of employing a wedding planner rather than doing it yourself?

    Our aim is to eliminate any stress from the bride and groom, so they can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the planning process, while together we design, plan and execute their dream day. We also ensure their wedding comes in on budget, we can advice and share opinions in situations without being emotionally involved. It is very easy to get carried away with the planning and ideas, so we keep couples on track.

    We can offer help, support and recommendations, which is essential because you don’t want to book unreliable inexperienced expensive suppliers and be disappointed or let down. Essentially we do all the leg work for the couple (wedding planning is not glamorous like in the films lol 🙂

    We can often bring all the couples dreams to life and offer styling and design help this happen.

    Many couples who opted to do things themselves and just hire us for the smaller details, often say after their wedding they wished they had hired us for Full Wedding Planning, to completely take all the stress away. But this doesn’t mean the couple don’t get a say in their wedding plans. We are there to assist, guide, recommend and do the leg work, not take over.

    A wedding planner can style your venue, and clear up the day after. We can liaise between suppliers and often negotiate and get you discounts.


    6.  Are there different levels of your planning service?

    Yes, Full Wedding Planning and Co-ordination. On The Day Management. Final few weeks. A bespoke package. Simply Supplier searching or venue viewing for those busy couples, or couples who live out side the Cotswolds, who dream of getting married in the Cotswolds but don’t have the time to view hundreds of beautiful Manor Houses and Stately Homes etc We also design a concept / theme for those couples who are finding it difficult to bring their ideas together. We budget track, keeping couples on budget through out the planning process and we offer hourly advice, for those couples who simply want to tap our wedding brains for hot tips, inspirations, trends and ideas.


    7.  Are you able to get discounts from other suppliers that couples would not be able to get on their own?

    In most cases yes, but we never guarantee this and always pass on any discounts to my couples and NEVER take a commision.


    8.  How do you source the suppliers you recommend and do you have various supplier options for couples?

    I have my favourite suppliers within the Cotswolds, who I have built up friendships and trust with, however the suppliers I recommend need to be appropriate for my couples’ style and budget. So much research goes into providing my couples with an initial list.

    I always like to initially provide the couples with options, which are all suited to there location / budget / availability / wedding size and style etc.. Together they choose 3 which we would then look into more. The 3 choices would be approached for a quote etc


    9.  What are your trend predictions for 2013?

    Ohh, well.. can vintage creative wedding tire? I don’t think so.. most of my couples are creative and really personalise their day, with styling and imagination. And 9 times out of 10 couples that book me have a similar style to mine, love my ideas and personal style and are vintage lovers..

    I believe 2013 will see the vintage wedding scene evolve as more and more brides are inspired by the creativity and freedom it offers and come up with their own ideas and make the whole scene even better.

    10.  What are your most popular themes and can you give some style tips on achieving this look?

    I would say most of my couples love vintage fairytale. Something truly dreamy and magical, with a hint of traditional and a touch of vintage. Hiring a beautiful Cotswold based stately home, (and there are so many stunning ones to choose from) Such as Lords of the Manor, Cowley Manor and Lower Slaughter Manor is where I would start because this will provide you with an incredible setting and an even more fitting, charmingly beautiful back drop. Your floral display and bridal attire will then help create this enchanting, fairytale look. Large floral display, with delicate feminine flowers and foliage would suit perfectly.. You can adorn this look with many finer details and decorations (if your budget allows you to) However, I would book a beautiful traditional car and get a great photographer, to capture your most magical moments.
