A Brighton Beach Engagement Shoot by Andrea Sarlo Photography
An easy way of life, life by the ocean. Now she turns on her charm, the way you like it, you make it all the time and watch the sun go down….
Need a bit of sun and sand in your life on this dull Winter’s morning? Well got a lot of sandy loveliness and sunny delights courtesy of Andrea Sarlo Photography and a fabulous Brighton Beach engagement shoot. Now you may be asking yourself, “What the hell is an engagement shoot?” Is it taking photographs at an engagement party? Or ir it a series of formal portraits taken to commemorate your engagement? Well I put those questions to photographer Andrea Sarlo, as well as asking her about the shoot featured today and this is what she had to say.
How did you meet Kat & Mike?
Her mother came with them them to meet me when they enquired as her mum’s friends family had had me do their wedding previously.
They were lots of fun even back then and I knew I was going to have a great time photographing their wedding. (you know when you just click with someone) Also they had lots of different ideas, like the wedding ceremony after the meal!
Where did the shoot take place?
We chose Brighton as this is where the couple live in a quaint little cottage a couple of street away from the sea front! By chance I think we ended up with one of the ( if not the only) sunniest days of the year! The couple are into the village urban life that Brighton has to offer. A very arty lot! ( groom is amazing with his music too!) hence the instrument in shots.
I had asked them to include a few ‘props’ that really showed what they were all about / reflect their life! Relevant props..!
What happens on an engagement shoot?
It’s a great way of getting to know the couple better before the wedding day, and to enable them to have images to use for cards, display or even wedding invites. We chose to work in a few key places all within Brighton, the seaside with the famous pier behind/ the dome/the pavilion- all relative to Brighton, key spots/ location .
How long does it last?
An hour or two – but I would never say time is up – we just have far too much fun!
Why would you recommend an engagement shoot?
We get to take some great images for the couple that they then have to use in the future, it’s a key time in their life and they are clearly in love and without the wedding elements or restraints, we can choose a location & clothes that is more ‘normal’ to the couple and of course we get to really know each other and how I work and how they are in front of a camera, this then makes the wedding day so much easier as we both know what to expect off each other!
Kat and Mike were a really wonderful couple to work with as were the rest of the family and friends too – the couple were sooooo very much in love and I wanted to capture that above all!
A lot of the wedding group pictures the couple are gazing at each other and not the camera – this was beautiful really the only time I don’t mind being ignored! Lol!
Getting to capture this emotion this moment in time is a real privilege – I just love my job!!!!
Thankyou to Andrea for her images and insightnd to Kat and Mike for sharing their engagement shoot with us. So what are you waiting for? Get an engagement shoot booked and have some fun as well as lasting and beautiful memories. Stay posted to the blog in February when we have lots of fab photographers offering very special exclusive prizes to Love Me Love My Wedding readers.
In the meantime check out Kat and Mike’s barn wedding on the blog tomorrow. Until then, bye for now, Jenny.
